Since texting is all about convenience and quickness in delivering the message, many people abbreviate their texts.
While we were on the topic of abbreviations, we figured we would help you out on some of the trendy text lingo you can use in your own text messages.

Obviously, these can mean other things…
So when figuring out what the sender meant to say, it is probably best to make sure it is relative to the context it is being said.. so think of what makes sense with the rest of the text. When in doubt, never assume things though, always ask.
Once you feel comfortable and familiar with acronyms, you may want to start using them yourself to save time.
Think you are ready to begin?
Here are some acronym and text etiquette pointers to take note of so that the receiver of your message fully understands what you are talking about:
- Use abbreviations and acronyms consistently. If you just use them every once in a blue moon the receiver won’t be use to use talking this way, so they may get very confused.
- Use abbreviations and acronyms that users are familiar with.
- Write out unusual abbreviations or acronyms whenever possible. If your text is already incredibly long, you may want to abbreviate some of the words, but if it just a quick response you could spend the extra moment to write out the words.
- Capitalize all letters in the acronym. Example: LOL instead of Lol. Although most people would understand even if it wasn’t capitalized, this just reiterates the fact that it is an acronym and not some weird sound you are trying to make.
- Do not insert a period between letters in an abbreviation.
- Do not use acronyms in a professional email/text unless you are very comfortable with the person and even then they should be used extremely sparingly and with caution.
Let us know if there are any we forgot! Or any new abbreviations you have made up that have worked out for you and caught on!
