Audi A8: Now Equipped with Google Earth!

by Tim Goggin on December 18, 2009

First Google takes over the internet search engine market. And then, they’re poised to take over a large portion of the smartphone market with the new Verizon Droid.

And next?

Now they are moving into the automobile market….

It was announced on December 16th that the new Audi A8’s will have the option of  Google Earth as their navigation of choice, for a “reasonable” price of around €2,900. ;)

They system will come right out of their dashboard like most navigation’s on an 8 inch LCD screen and showcase a combination of online and offline data.

The maps are in 3D, just like they would look if searched from your computer. In fact, you can do a search on your computer, map out your route and then open it up onto the navigation system in the car.

In addition to having maps, you can also look up information on the surrounding area you are in from Wikipedia. You can get real time routes in order to see which is the quickest way home. And you can search based upon points of interest (i.e. sports bar, coffee shop).

In order to use the Google Earth navigation, you either need to insert a SIM card into the navigation or pair your cell phone via Bluetooth with it.

Although I don’t see myself in the market for a new car anytime soon, it is pretty neat! And for those of you looking for a new car this year, I would definitely check out the Audi! :)

I found this pic (obviously not real), but kind of funny in relation to my above article…
